Discone Antenna
A discone antenna covers a very wide frequency range with one omnidirectional antenna, so you can transmit and receive in every direction without tuning. STAR Antenna manufactures ultra-wideband discone antennas in 5 models, covering 30 MHz up to 6 GHz.
They are rugged, all-weather and need no field adjustment. The cone and disc ship removed for easy packing, and the compact design with mounting hardware makes installation quick.
How a discone antenna works
A discone has a disc on top of a cone. Together they act as a very wide band radiator with an omnidirectional pattern in the horizontal plane. Because there is no single resonant length, one antenna can work over a band that would need several narrowband antennas.
Why choose our discone antennas
- Ultra wideband: coverage from 30 MHz to 6 GHz across the range
- Omnidirectional: receive and transmit in all directions, ideal for base stations
- No field tuning: install and use
- Built for the weather: 6.5 mm thick disc and cone, with the termination and feed cable enclosed in the mounting pipe
- All-brass design: reduces internal intermodulation
- Easy to ship and install: cone and disc removed for packing, mounting hardware supplied
Choosing a model

|---|---|---|---|
| SOD-30100 | 30 to 100 MHz | 70 MHz | Unity |
| SOD-100700 | 100 to 700 MHz | 600 MHz | Unity |
| SOD-3201800 | 320 to 1800 MHz | 1480 MHz | Unity |
| SOD-330550 | 330 to 550 MHz | 220 MHz | Unity, VSWR 1:1.5 |
| SOD-7006000 | 700 to 6000 MHz | 5300 MHz | Unity |
Pick the model whose range covers your frequencies. Need a different band? Custom in-band and out-of-band versions are available on request.
Where discone antennas are used

- Test, measurement and EMC work, and scanner or receiver use
Discone or log periodic?
Choose a discone when you need to cover all directions with one antenna. Choose a log periodic dipole antenna when you need directional gain toward one source.
Complete the installation
Add mounting hardware and a gas discharge tube surge arrestor, or use a portable mast for temporary sites. Request a quote or ask for the datasheet.
FAQs
What gain does a discone antenna have?
Our discone antennas are unity gain, and are omnidirectional.
Do I need to tune it?
No. It needs no field tuning or adjustment.
What is it made of?
Chrome-plated brass or aluminium, with 6.5 mm thick disc and cone elements.
Can you make a custom band?
Yes. Custom in-band and out-of-band versions are available on request.
